I had the opportunity to talk with several teachers who do Genius Hour Projects. Below is an exmaple of a list of projects that a teacher is doing this year with her students. This picture is from Andi McNair (@mcnairan3) who is a teacher in Texas.
I started reading a really great book called Designing Defensible Classroom Programs for Gifted Secondary School Learners. As I started really reading this book, I saw some charts that I think every teacher and parent should see.
These charts have descriptors on them that describe Cognitive, Creative, and Social-Emotional Characteristics of gifted children. It also has an area on the chart that describes the type of learning environment that is best suited for that learner.
The other night I had the chance to go to the first ACES (Allen County Excpetional Students) meeting. There was a go showing by many of the schools from around the county. Judy Chaffins and Brittnay Collier did a great job of presenting information about the social and emotional needs of gifted children.
Parents, I hope that in the future you will be able to join this meeting. The next meeting is March 3 at 7pm at the Met.This is going to be a great resource for parents, teachers and advocates for gifted children, Below I am providing the PowerPoint they showed, and a great article as well.
