My 6th - 8th grade students are building mousetrap cars. They are working very hard, and the designs of the cars are very good. I am so excited to see how the students' car fair compared to each other.
I hope that my students are enjoying this project. I truly feel this project helps to build their critical thinking skills and long with their skills of scaling and designing cars that went from the drawing paper to real world.
I will keep everyone posted through pictures using twitter (#LCSgifted) or follow me at @jeff_shoemaker. I will also be posting to Schoology. If you have or want the parent code to Schoology you will be able to see what are students will be doing this year.
For the past few weeks and for several weeks to come the 5th grade classes will be doing different engineering projects based on common house hold items. I have been very impressed with the work that my students have done so far.
My goal with this long term project is to get students aware that working together, critical thinking, and communication are 3 aspects of life that are very important. The development of these skills will help them as they enter high school and college.
I will continue to post pictures of the day to Twitter and to Schoology. On Twitter you can follow me @jeff_shoemaker, or the hashtag #LCSgifted to see some pictures. If you have or want the parent code for Schoology you can see what we do every day as I post it there.
To my students....keep up the good work!
