This week we will be completing our 2rd challenge. This challenge is bridge building. We will be looking at a few different types of bridges, and you will be building one of them.
We will look at different styles of bridges, and we will be looking at how bridges work. I have a few videos that we will look at this morning to help us get more information about bridges.
Videos to watch:
- Bridge Design Playlist (Watch this first)
- History of Bridge Construction (2:31)
- Suspension Bridges (5:13)
- Building a Strong Bridge (2:49)
- The Brooklyn Bridge (1:55)
After your bridge is built and we have our competition you will be placing your answers in the form below. In the extended responses make sure your use complete sentences.
This week we will go over or review the expectations I have for class. I will be showing you how the class will run anlong with some classroom exeptations.
For our first project we will looking at Geodesic Domes. We will be building and designing several of them over the next few weeks. We will be exploring the uses, designs, why people would live and work in them, and how they would be efficient to live and work in.
Today we will start / continue with a paper model. We will then design a larger one in which will be large enough for 2 people to sit in.
We will be looking at scale. We will be taking the small triangles and then making them bigger through the math. We will then make several of the new trianlges and begin to place them in the form of the geodesic dome.
